GooglePlay Reaches 25 Billion App Downloads, but Who is Paying Attention

By Berk Veral, Senior Product Marketing Manager, RSA FraudAction and CyberCrime Intelligence

Google recently announced that GooglePlay has reached 25 billion app downloads.  The news doesn’t come as a surprise as the app store had passed 20 billion app downloads less than three months ago. Now that is strong customer demand for apps; roughly 39,000 app downloads a minute!

GooglePlay is also promoting special prices for popular apps to celebrate this milestone. We can expect more of these types of promotions from app stores as we get closer to the holiday season.

The app stores and the mobile apps are big business; very high customer demand with every person with a mobile device as a potential customer; online transactions are involved; and apps sit on end user devices –at least partially– with access to very valuable PII.

Now, if you were a cyber criminal, where would you focus your attention? hmm…
